Learners will be able to:

  • recognize the barriers imposed by discrepancies between the practitioner's and patient's approach to health, illness, and health care when dealing with different cultural groups
  • learn ways to manage and bridge the discrepancies between the practitioner's and patient's approach to health, illness, and health care;
  • be able to conduct patient interviews that elicit health beliefs and incorporate these beliefs into the treatment plan and
  • work more effectively with interpreters.


Throughout the seminar, realistic scenarios of interaction between healthcare providers and patients with different cultures and beliefs are used to enhance the comprehension and retention of the critical information that is provided during the seminar.
